Was the additional Christmas opening worth it?

Today I have been looking at the data relating to the use of the two libraries that opened for additional days before Christmas. I have compared the numbers of people who entered the SSL and Old Bodleian on 21st and 23rd December (the extra days) with the numbers from the week before. We have high quality data from the access control system (swipecard) about the number of individual users and how many times each user entered, so I have been able to split the numbers into University card holders and external readers.

I have also analysed the headcounts of the number of readers who were working in the libraries at points throughout the day.

I have used all this data to produce a report for Cabinet explaining the findings. One thing that the report does not include is the impact of the extra opening on readers as this cannot be determined from quantitative data – we need to ask them.
