IT tools to help you study effectively and efficiently

This free session provides a brief introduction to key assistive technology and apps that might help you to work and study more efficiently. Tools for planning and organisation, reading and writing will be included. We will show you free or low-cost tools available for both PCs and Macs

This course is aimed at all students; the course might be particularly beneficial for students with disabilities, including students with specific learning difficulties and mental health conditions. Interested staff are welcome.

MANTRA is an acclaimed online independent learning course which provides guidelines for good practice in research data management. Particularly useful for DPhil students and early career researchers who are starting a research project.

Bodleian iSkills: Google for academic research (Wed 22 February 14.00-16.00) Week 6

How do you get relevant, high quality academic material from a Google search, while quickly filtering out the torrent of spurious and misleading results? This practical workshop will show you how. Alternative search engines will also be explored and compared, including DuckDuckGo.

Referencing: RefWorks for Humanities (Fri 24 February 09.15-12.15) Week 6

This workshop introduces you to RefWorks – an online tool which allows you to manage your citations/references, insert them into your work as footnotes or intext citations, automatically generate bibliographies and easily switch between citation styles.

Email forwarding (for University card holders)

If you have a current University card you will also have automatically been allocated a University email account (Nexus) with an email address ending .ox.ac.uk

The Library, in common with the Department and all other Oxford University institutions will use this email address to communicate with you.

If you choose not to use this account, it is important that you set up automatic forwarding of email from the University account to your preferred account in order that you do not miss important information.

Setting up forwarding is very simple:

  1. Visit https://register.it.ox.ac.uk/self/nexus
  2. Login with your Single Sign On
  3. Select “Email forwarding address settings” and click Submit
  4. Enter the email address you wish to forward to and click Submit

For Local Historians: Percy Manning, the man who collected Oxfordshire

This year marks the centenary of the death of Percy Manning, Oxfordshire collector and folklorist. The Bodleian Library holds Manning’s archive and there is a public display from the archive in the Weston Library from 18th February – 23rd April. Various other events are taking place across Oxfordshire this year.
