The Library has now reopened for ‘click and collect’, study spaces in the reading room open 29 September – book your place now!

We are delighted to announce that the Rewley House Library is re-opening with services being gradually re-introduced from 23 September.

In order to protect students and staff there will be some changes in the Library. In particular you must book a place every time you want to use the Library – unfortunately it will not be possible to simply drop into the Library without a booking.   The only exception to this will be if you are simply returning books and do not need to use the Library for any other purpose. This will take some getting used to but the restrictions are there to protect students and staff by ensuring social distancing.    Please note that we anticipate that everyone who wants to will be able to use the Library but the booking system will ensure that clusters of people do not all arrive all at once.

Key Services

Services will be gradually opened over a few days.   Dates are given below.     However, please note that there could be last minute changes.  Please check back here or for more information.

Library Scan (from 21 September) – You can request scans of book chapters or articles from Rewley House using the ‘LibraryScan’ service.

  • If you are studying you are studying on an undergraduate or postgraduate programme and/or have an Oxford University card, to use “LibraryScan” please log in to SOLO using your Oxford single sign on (SSO).   Search for items in the normal way.  Once you have found an item for scanning please click on the “LibraryScan” button.  This is in the set of buttons ABOVE the list of libraries which own the item. Alternatively if the item is in the Bodleian stack click “RemoteScan”
  • If you are a WOW student or have a pink Continuing Education Library card you may still be able to use “LibraryScan” but you will not be able to place your orders in SOLO.  Please check  here for more information.

Click and Collect (from 23 September).  You will  be able to order books from the Continuing Education Library using ‘Click & Collect’ from 23 September..

  • If you are studying on an undergraduate or postgraduate programme and/or have an Oxford University card, to use “click and collect” please log in to SOLO using your Oxford single sign on (SSO).  Search for items in the normal way.     When you find an item in the Continuing Education Library you will see a button “request”.    Use this to order your books.   Library staff will then fetch the books you have ordered.    Once  staff have fetched the books you will receive an email asking you to choose a collection slot (there will be plenty of choice of slots).   You can also click and collect at some other Bodleian Libraries.  Please note that until 30 September it will not possible to order items via “click and collect” if they are available via a HathiTrust link.  After 30 September you will be able to borrow nearly all items in the Continuing Education Library.  Please see for full instructions
  • If you are a WOW student or have a pink Continuing Education Library card you can still use “click and collect” but you will not be able to place your orders in SOLO.   Instead you will need to fill in a form to tell us which books you want. Please look here for the form and further information

Returning books (from 23 September) You can return your books to the Continuing Education Library without a booking from 24 September. Please put them in the book returns box which is now situated just inside the door of the main library (it is no longer in the reading room).  Alternatively you can return books to a Bodleian Libraries returns hub or the Library provide you with a paid envelope to return your books by post.   Please find more information at https://www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/using/loanreturns

Book a desk (from 28 September) The reading room will be open to students who have booked a study space from 28 September.    You will be able to book a study space with or without a computer.      To book a place in the Rewley House Library please click on this link or for bookings across Bodleian Libraries please go to https://www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/using/reading-rooms  The Continuing Education Library is not yet listed on that page and so it is not possible to book a desk quite yet.   A link to book a desk in the Continuing Education Library will be added on or after 23 September

Changes and restrictions to ensure that we are COVID safe.  Please note…

  • Booking is essential – To use the library you must either order books via ‘Click & Collect’ or book a study space. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate walk in readers at this time.
  • Access to the book shelves in the upper and lower library will be limited to Library staff initially. We hope that limited shelf browsing may be possible later in term but initially all books must be ordered via ‘click and collect’
  • Self-service printing, photocopying and scanning will not be available initially. These facilities may be re-introduced later in term. In the meantime you can request free scans via LibraryScan.
