The official opening of the Gladstone Link will be celebrated, in the Link, at 5.45pm on Wednesday 5 October*. Drinks and light refreshments will be served: all are welcome to attend.
The Gladstone Link is a new area of the Bodleian Library for open-shelf library material accessible by readers – the first in these buildings since 1912.
It has
- new informal reading spaces
- spaces for group study
- underground connection and lift access to the Old Bodleian Library
- historic shelving designed by William Gladstone himself
- wifi, look-up terminals and copiers
- open-shelf provision of high-use material previously kept in closed stacks
- displays of new books
- the Personal Development Collection of Mr Po Chung
* Readers wishing to continue with quiet study during the official opening may wish to move to reading rooms in the Radcliffe Camera or Old Bodleian Library.
