Gladstone Link: Official Opening Wednesday 5 October 2011

The official opening of the Gladstone Link will be celebrated, in the Link, at 5.45pm on Wednesday 5 October*. Drinks and light refreshments will be served: all are welcome to attend.

The Gladstone Link is a new area of the Bodleian Library for open-shelf library material accessible by readers – the first in these buildings since 1912.

It has

  • new informal reading spaces
  • spaces for group study
  • underground connection and lift access to the Old Bodleian Library
  • historic shelving designed by William Gladstone himself
  • wifi, look-up terminals and copiers
  • open-shelf provision of high-use material previously kept in closed stacks
  • displays of new books
  • the Personal Development Collection of Mr Po Chung

* Readers wishing to continue with quiet study during the official opening may wish to move to reading rooms in the Radcliffe Camera or Old Bodleian Library.
