Free books available

There are a number of free history books available on a first come first served basis in the Old Indian Institute building common room (in the basement of the building, downstairs from the History Faculty Library).  The books cannot be reserved but are available to anyone willing to come and take them away.

They are duplicates of books already held in the Bodleian Libraries or worn out library books that have been replaced by new copies.

Example titles include:

  • Plumb’s The Growth of Political Stability in England 1675-1725
  • Camden Society’s The old cheque-book, or, Book of remembrance, of the Chapel Royal, from 1561 to 1744
  • Merot’s Du paysage en peinture dans l’Occident moderne
  • Mattingly’s Catherine of Aragon

The History Faculty Library is currently closed, during the move of collections and services to the Radcliffe Camera and Gladstone Link.  For more information about the move, please visit our website.
