History Thesis Fair for 2nd year historians this Thursday

Expert assistance

There will be a range of librarians, archivists and a small number of other specialists and academics available for you to chat to about your topic and how to search for resources effectively and efficiently.  We will also have a fellow History student who has already written a thesis available to give advice and tips on how to manage the process of writing and researching a thesis.

Drop in

The Fair is open 2.30-4.30pm and students are welcome to drop by at any time in this window, no booking is required.  The Fair will be held in the North Writing School in the 1st floor of the Exam Schools, and can be accessed by lift or stairs.

More training and support available throughout the year

The Fair offers the opportunity to meet librarians and archivists to discuss your topic and also to organise further one-to-one sessions with subject specialists. You can also find details of subject specialists online and contact them directly for advice and to arrange appointments.

There are also a lots of workshops coming up this term, including:

Research Skills for Your Thesis,  Wed 22 May 14.00-16.00 (TT week 5)
**repeated** Thur 6 June 10.30-12.30 (TT week 7)
This 2-hour session is designed to equip students working on their dissertation with key information skills in order to make best use of electronic information and discovery resources. A range of databases, e-journals and web portals will be explored as well as advanced features in SOLO and tools for literature searches. Time for hands-on practise will be included. > Book now

RefWorks for Your Thesis, Wed 5 June 14.00-16.00 (TT week 7)

RefWorks is an online tool that makes it easy for students to keep track of their references and format them for inclusion in their work.

This session is primarily aimed at 2nd year History Undergraduates and will give a basic introduction on how to use RefWorks for your dissertation and will highlight some of its key features. The session is also open other postgraduates and academics. > Book now

  1. Time to learn more and deliver the paper on time. Are those mentors still available after the fair? Just in case students there are clarifications popped up.
