Lower Camera – open and new entrance

I’m delighted to report that the Lower Camera and the brand new entrance from the south (opp. Vaults / University Church) are now open and awaiting your visit. When you come through the new entrance, you will need to swipe yourself in/out as in the Old Library.

The north door into RadCam is now closed. We can therefore permit free circulation of books between Upper Camera, Lower Camera, Gladstone Link and further afield from the Old Library. There are no bag searches anymore as we have book detectors in the right location.

The new enquiry desk is immediately at the entrance where you can seek help, collect your HFL holds, return / borrow books, etc.  The Self-Issue terminal is opposite.

The internal HFL book drop box is by the staircase leading to the Gladstone Link. The external book drop box (in the lobby of the entrance) will be put into commission soon. Watch this space!

Book deliveries to the Lower Camera will be possible from tomorrow evening. If you have placed any book orders from Swindon, then you pick those up from the shelves around the central console in Lower Camera. Read more about self-collect, which is already working well in the Lower Reading Room.

HFL lending books are now in LCam and Upper Gladstone Link only (excepting Local History collection which temporarily remains in LGL). Bodleian books formerly in UGL are now in Lower Gladstone Link. The HFL New Books Display is in Upper Gladstone Link. (Re-)check SOLO for correct location information and note a slightly different (and better) sequencing of the stock.

Lockers are now more visible and accessible in Upper Gladstone Link.

This is a summary of some of the most important changes we’ve done this summer. A few works will still need to be completed in the coming days, most importantly the path which will allow wheelchair access into the Lower Camera. However, we are delighted to have completed a whole range of improvements before the start of 0th week.

Thank you for your patience during this time and apologies again for any disruption to your work.
