Term borrowing has started!

Welcome back everyone to a new academic year! And a special welcome to our new undergraduates and graduates. For those of you have had books out for the vacation the term limit has reverted to a maximum of 15 items. If you have more than 15 books out and you want to take out additional items you will need to bring some back.

You are reminded that vacation loans are due back on Monday 9th October. Please don’t forget!

From now on undergraduates can check out books for 7 days and research graduates for 28 days.

Do enjoy your studies and we hope to see you all in the library soon.

Duke Humfrey’s Library: Lighting Project 21 August until end of September

Work to replace and upgrade the lighting in Duke Humfrey’s Library will begin on Monday 21 August and continue until the end of September.

During this period sections of the reading room will be closed off in turn to allow this work to be completed.

Access to Duke Humfrey’s Library may also be restricted to one staircase only at times. It may prove necessary to close the reading room for book moves at particular points in the project and notice will be given if this is the case with a fetching service provided.

There will be some noise associated with this project and readers may therefore prefer to work in other reading rooms.

For any queries about access to material please consult staff at the Main Enquiry Desk in the Lower Reading Room.

The good news is that, once completed, it should be easier to read the spine titles of local history society publications in the galleries.

Phone upgrade Tuesday 15 August 2017

The University’s new telephone service, Chorus, will be installed in the Radcliffe Camera and Gladstone Link on the afternoon of Tuesday 15th August. This will involve changing handsets and will cause little disruption. Our main phone line may be offline for a short time in the afternoon.

If you receive no response from 01865(2)77262 please try 01865(2)77200 on the afternoon of Tuesday 15th August only.

Camera & GLadstone Link returned to normal opening – open until 7pm

The installation of new contactless card readers at the entrance/exit gates of the Radcliffe Camera has been completed ahead of schedule and we have now resumed normal opening. The Camera front door is in operation again and we will not be closing at 5pm as previously advertised but will remain open until 7pm.

*The Camera and the Gladstone Link will be open until 7pm today.*

The card readers are the same style as those in the Weston Library and we hope they are easier to use than the former swipe card readers. Thank you for your patience and apologies for the inconvenience caused by the work.

Vacation borrowing starts Monday!

From Monday 12th June those eligible may start checking books out for the summer vacation up to a maximum of 15 items.

From Thursday 15th June the limit goes up to 30 including short loans.

Please return or renew your current loans loans by Wednesday 14th June and remember to pay your fines.

Vac loans must be returned by Monday of first week in Michaelmas Term (9th October). Please don’t leave them at home!

Don’t forget you can access many of our eResources off-campus via SOLO using your SSO to log in.

Happy Easter everyone!

Laptop Security

Unfortunately there has been another incident of laptop theft within the library. A MacBook Pro was stolen yesterday from the central computer area in Lower Camera. A similar incident occurred in November 2016. This is a sad reminder that theft does happen within the library. To minimise risk to your property and your research please take the following steps:

  • Lock your laptop to the desk handles with a Laptop cable lock.
  • Take your laptop with you even if you only move away for 15 minutes.
  • Install a free “Find My laptop Device” such as Prey, or enable the “Find my … ” on Apple devices.
  • Back up your work to the cloud or an external hard drive.

University Security and Thames Valley Police have been informed of this incident. We’d like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to keep belongings close and if you do notice anything odd or are concerned someone may be taking something that isn’t theirs please report it to library staff.
