Library Closure for Building Works 23 June – 4 July (incl)

This summer, the Wellcome Unit is undergoing major boiler and heating works which will mean that access to the library is not possible for two weeks over the summer.

Our last day open before these works will be Friday 20th June; our reopening date will depend on the completion of the works, but is intended to be Monday 7th July

In the meantime, we can still be contacted via email wellcomeunit.library@bodleian.ox.ac.uk. The following other libraries with history of science, medicine and technology provision will also be open during the summer:
Radcliffe Science Library http://www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/science

Bodleian Library Upper Reading Room http://www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/bodley/finding-resources/rooms/urr

History Faculty Library http://www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/history

Please continue to visit this blog and our twitter account @WelLibOxford for updates on the works or any changes in dates.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused by these works, but hope it means that we will be able to extend an even warmer welcome than usual when they’re done!

Work in the Library – Thurs. 3 November

The Librarian’s Office will be having some work done – air vents installed – on Thursday (3 November) so please be warned that it will be noisy.

You may want to avoid using the Library that day as you might not be able to hear yourself think.

Apologies for any inconvenience but, as with the rewiring, it is a necessary exercise so thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Library now open but with continued disruption through September

The Wellcome Unit Library has reopened to readers today (01/09/11). However readers should be aware that the Unit is still very much a building site and that there will continue to be noise, mess and disruption for the next few weeks as work is carried out to finish off the rewiring and to get everything back in place. There will also be limited internet access in the library until all the connections have been finished. If you would like to visit the library please contact us in advance by emailing library@wuhmo.ox.ac.uk so that the most suitable time can be set up.

Reminder: Wellcome Unit Library closed for re-wiring 25 July-31st August (inclusive)

A reminder that the Wellcome Unit Library will be closed to all readers from Monday 25th July-Wednesday 31st August (inclusive) for important electrical re-wiring work. We apologise for any unavoidable inconvenience this may cause you. If there is a book that is held by the library that you are having difficulty finding elsewhere in Oxford please contact the Bodleian Libraries’ Just-in-time team who will do their best to source an alternative copy for you.

Wellcome Unit Library closed for re-wiring: 25 July-1 September

The Wellcome Unit buildings will be undergoing electrical re-wiring work throughout the summer vacation this year. From Tuesday 5th July until the end of September, visitors to the Unit should be aware that they may encounter noise, mess and disruption due to this.

The library itself will be closed for re-wiring work on the following dates, with no access to the collections:

Tuesday 5th July

Monday 25th July – Wednesday 31st August (inclusive)

If you know of a book that you will need during this period and that is not available elsewhere in Oxford, then please contact the librarian-in-charge, as far in advance as possible, and we will try to arrange alternative access.

Many apologies for any unavoidable inconvenience this work may cause.

Noise in the library due to building works

The first phase of a re-wiring project has begun in the Wellcome Unit and unfortunately this means there may be quite a bit of noise and disruption for library users in the next few weeks. There may also be some days when the library will need to remain closed so look out for further announcements. Many apologies for any inconvenience caused.
