We hope you are enjoying your summer for those who have taken a break from Oxford until the next academic year.

For those of you that are still here working, a reminder that during the hotter weather, you may find cooler spots on the lower floors.  Just ask staff to point you in the right direction.  Water can be found out of the Library and in the area by the vending machines (or by the Cube).

Accessing material whilst away from Oxford

If you are looking to get a head start on next year remember that you can access most electronic resources from anywhere in the world.  If you log in to SOLO with your SSO in the top right, it will allow you to access any eresources you find without having to log in and jump through hoops once you get to the database.  There are a few exceptions, but using SOLO or the link from the list of legal databases https://www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/libraries/law/legal-databases will take you through the correct log in process.

Having issues accessing material?  There are number of reasons you may encounter problems.  There are a few databases require that you to be ‘on campus’, there should be a note on the SOLO record or in the description on the databases page.  If this is the case, you can use the University VPN, if you haven’t set up a VPN then information on how to do so can be found on the IT pages https://help.it.ox.ac.uk/vpn .

If there are still issues it is always worth clearing cookies and the cache for your browser and/or temporarily using a different browser to see if this solves it.  Do contact us if you have any problems accessing something at law.library@bodleian.ox.ac.uk .

Something you need not available online? Remember you can order a scan via Library Scan.  It is restricted under copyright law to just one chapter/article or 5% of a work, whichever is greater and so we are unable to copy a whole book for you but we can get that essential chapter to you via email.  To use the service, you just need to log into SOLO and then when you go to location for the item, there should be a button called Scan and Deliver.  More guidance can be found here https://www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/services/remote-access/scan-deliver .  There is a turnaround time up to 7 days.

Library News

A heads up on ORLO reading lists : When you come back from the summer, you will find that your ORLO reading lists will have a different look.  We will be giving out more information on the ‘new look’ later on in the summer vacation but if you have any issues at the moment, please contact us or your tutor.

Library Survey:  Before the summer break, we sent out a Library survey.  Many thanks to those of you that completed it. We will be looking through the results and reporting back in the new academic year so watch this space.

DocDel: If you are a law firm looking to get copies of material, just a reminder that we are still not able to provide these under a document delivery service.  However, if the material is needed for judicial proceedings and you have a British Library account, we are able to provide them under our inter-library loan service.  More information can be obtained by emailing our inter-library loan team on ill-law@bodleian.ox.ac.uk .
