Michaelmas Term 2011 & New Library Catalogue

Michaelmas Term 2011 is starting next week – hello to all our new students, welcome back to all our continuing ones!

Library books that were borrowed over the vacation are due back on Monday 1st Week, don’t forget…

There have been some quite large changes over the summer – the old OLIS library catalogue has gone, all book finding is now done through SOLO – http://solo.bodleian.ox.ac.uk

If a book says its location is “Bodleian Library” and its Status is “Remote Store”, this means it’s in storage and needs to be ordered to a library if you want to read it. You can do this by logging into SOLO up in the top right-hand corner – click “Oxford SSO” and put in your Single Sign On details (the same username and password that you use to get your emails). To request a book that has it’s location as Remote Store, click on the blue word “Hold”. You can request books to the Oriental Institute Library or to lots of other different libraries.

When you’re logged into SOLO you can also see all the books you’ve got out from Oxford libraries, and renew them yourself. Just click on “My Account” inthe top right-hand corner of the page.

If you need any help with this, just ask at any library desk. We’ll be happy to help!

Summer Vacation Closed Days

The Bodleian Oriental Institute Library will be closed on the  following days:

Saturday 20th August 2011

Saturday 27th – Monday 29th August 2011

Saturday 3rd – Tuesday 6th September 2011

The rest of the vacation we’re open as normal, from 9:15 am to 7 pm on weekdays and from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturdays.

Catalogue Switch Lasting until Fri 22nd

Due to the computer system failing the day before it was due to be upgraded, the switch-over to our new catalogue system will last longer than expected – probably until this Friday, the 22nd July at 9am. Ordering books from stacks will not be possible until that date.

There are various emergency systems in place – go here to find out more: http://www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/notices/2011-4-5

Book ordering 7 to 22 July 2011 and OLIS replacement

The Bodleian is currently switching online catalogues. This has lots of knock-on effects on things like ordering books from the Bodleian! This should last just over a week – from this evening (Thursday 7th July) to the morning of Monday 18th July.

For more information, please visit: http://www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/notices/2011-4-5

ETA: The process has been delayed, and the system will now be back online on Friday 22nd July at 9am.

Vacation Loans & Opening

We’re now into vacation borrrowing, so if you take out or renew any books you’ll be getting them until the 2nd May – which is Monday of 1st Week.

We’ll be open as normal through the vacation, from 9:15 am to 7 pm on weekdays and from 10 am to 4 pm on Saturdays.

We’re closed for Easter from Thursday 21st April to Monday 25th April (inclusive).

We’re also closed on the morning of Monday 28th March, opening at 12 noon. This is because all the electricity for us, the Sackler and the Ashmolean will be cut off that morning! There will be works taking place in Pusey Lane all that week, so be warned that it may be noisy in the library.

We will be open as normal on the Royal Wedding and May Day bank holidays.

New online resource trial

BABO (the Bibliography of Arabic Books Online) aims to become a comprehensive bibliographic database containing information about virtually all books published in Arabic before 1960, and then continuing up to the present. The bibliography will ultimately contain over 80,000 records and almost 35,000 unique name records.

We’ve got a free trial on it until the 2nd March 2011- so please check it out and tell us what you think of it! It’s quite an expensive resource, so we’d particularly value feedback.

OIL open again

The Bodleian Oriental Institute Library is now open as usual, until Easter. We hope all our readers had good vacations!

Library books taken out before our break are due back on the 17th January (Monday of 1st Week), whilst books taken out from now onwards will be out for the standard two weeks.

Vacation

Another term is ending, and so once again we’re into vacation loans. This means that any books taken out or renewed between now and the New Year will be due back on the 17th January (Monday of 1st Week).

We will be open for our full hours in the holidays, from 9:15 am to 7 pm every weekday and from 10 am until 4 pm on Saturdays.

The Oriental Institute building will close after Wednesday 22nd December and open again on Tuesday 4th January.

We hope all our readers have great vacations!

Termtime Opening Hours

The vacation is over, Oxford is now in 0th week, and as such we’re starting termtime opening hours from this Saturday, 9th October 2010.

We’ll be open from 10am until 4pm on Saturday. If you arrive after 1pm the front doors to the building may be closed- telephone 01865 278201 to be let in.

From Monday we’ll be open until 7pm, and the front doors to the building will also be open until then.
