Returning Books to the SSL

The SSL book returns service operates from Monday to Friday from 12pm – 4pm.

When returning items to the SSL:

  • Please queue outside the Manor Road Building 2m from the person in front of you
  • When at the front of the queue, staff will ask you to place your books in the crates provided
  • Please do not leave your books outside the building while we are unstaffed and unable to accept returns, as they will be at risk of damage and theft. Full replacement costs will be charged for items left this way.

Other Libraries that you can return books to that are open at various times through the week are:

  • Old Road Campus building
  • Radcliffe Humanities building
  • Saïd Business School
  • Weston Library

Additional information can be found here.

A map showing the locations where you can return items to can be found here.

If you are away from Oxford and unable to return your books in person to these libraries, you now have the option of returning them via post:

The Bodleian Libraries are offering a return of loans by post service in partnership with Royal Mail. We understand that it may be difficult or impossible to physically return your borrowed items to the proper library in Oxford, thus the Bodleian Libraries return by post service will cover shipping costs to facilitate returning all loaned books.

Using the form available here you will be able to generate a mailing label to print at home or a QR code to take to a Royal Mail post office for printing as you return the books.

You will need to provide an approximate weight of your books. Please use a personal scale or use the images provided to estimate the weight of your books for return.  Individual items weighing more than 20kg will need to be sent using an alternate method. Screenshots of the process are also provided showing what to expect in the form.

If you have any questions, please email us.
