Working Remotely? Need a Book Chapter or Journal Article? Use our Scan & Deliver Service

Scan & Deliver is an electronic document delivery service which enables you to obtain scans of book chapters or journal articles via email from the Bodleian Libraries’ print collections.

The service was rolled out more widely in response to the pandemic to support students and researchers working remotely. Since June 2020 (when staff came back on-site after the first Lockdown), 3000 scans have been processed by SSL staff members.

Using the Service

One request for a scan can be made per day via SOLO.

Requests are normally fulfilled within seven working days, Monday-Friday. This excludes weekends and any University holidays.

The service is currently free.

Placing a Request

It comprises two separate request routes:

  • OffsiteScan for items in off-site storage/closed stacks
  • LibraryScan for items on the open shelves of libraries
  • OffsiteScan is available to both University and Bodleian Reader card holders.
  • LibraryScan is available to current members of the University with a SSO only

You can place a Scan and Deliver request through SOLO.

OffsiteScan requests:

  1. Log in using your Oxford Single Sign On (SSO) or non-Oxford Member (Bodleian Reader) login
  2. Locate the relevant item record
  3. In the ‘Find and Request’ section of the record select ‘Scan & Deliver’.

LibraryScan requests:

  1. Log in using your Oxford Single Sign On (SSO)
  2. Locate the relevant item record
  3. In the ‘Export Options’ section of the record select ‘LibraryScan’
  4. If an OffsiteScan is available, please choose this over a LibraryScan.

Watch the Scan & Deliver Training Video which will guide you through the process.

Receive your Request

Once your request has been completed, your scan will be posted on a server and you will receive an email including a link to the scan. Your request will be available to access for 14 days.

Files are retained for 28 days, so please contact us as soon as possible if you need us to restore your file after the 14 day period has passed.

Your Scan and Deliver request is for individual research use only, and may not be shared, distributed or posted elsewhere online.
