A lamp turned on shining its beam on an open book which has the words vacation borrowing on it.The end of term is approaching and that means our vacation loans will shortly be starting.

Vacation loans will begin on Monday 27 November (Monday of 8th week of Michaelmas Term).

Any items borrowed on or after this date will be assigned a due date of Tuesday 16 January (Tuesday of 1st week of Hilary Term 2024)

Please note for items currently on loan to you, borrowed before Monday 27 November:

  • Any items you have on loan which were originally borrowed between Monday 7 August 2023 and Sunday 26 November 2023, which are not already overdue and not requested by another reader, will automatically renew until Tuesday 16 January
  • Any items you borrowed before Monday 7 August will reach the maximum renewal period before the start of the vacation and so will not be eligible for automatic renewal over the vacation; these items should be returned before Monday 27 November, and re-borrowed if you wish to keep them

Important exception to Vacation Loans

Items ordered up from Bodleian Offsite Storage that you were able to take out of the library, are not subject to vacation loans – they will auto-renew on the same pattern as they have been throughout term-time.

Any questions on the above? Please do contact us.

Vacation loans are due back on Tuesday 10th October

Items you have taken out on vacation loan last term, are due back on Tuesday 10th October (1st Week of Michaelmas Term).

If you wish to extend the loan of these items, you will need to return them to the library to be re-issued to you.

Short Loan items will revert to being 2 day loans.

Bodleian Libraries introduced a shared policy on borrowing from our libraries on 24 August 2023.

You can find details of the policy at https://www.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/services/borrow.

This policy was introduced following consistent feedback over many years in favour of aligning borrowing rules more closely across the 22 Bodleian Libraries which offer a lending service.

One aspect of the policy is the Maximum Renewal Period:

All loans, except Same Day Loans, have a maximum renewal period of 112 days (16 weeks) from the date of the original loan. They cannot be renewed again after this period has elapsed. If you wish to continue using an item after this period, you will need to bring it back to the library to be re-issued.

If you have any feedback or comments about the new shared policy on borrowing, please do reply to this email or contact us to let us know.
