Bodleian Libraries Refresher Inductions: January 10th, 11th and 12th

Are you an existing undergraduate or taught-postgraduate student at the University of Oxford and unsure of how the Bodleian Libraries can help you? Did you miss your Freshers’ week welcome session, or would you like a refresher? Are you a new visiting student? If so, join a 30-minute webinar to learn how the Bodleian Libraries can help you with your studies and research. By the end of the webinar, you will understand:

  • the network of Bodleian Libraries
  • how to find items on your reading list including how to use SOLO
  • how to use the Bodleian Libraries Wi-Fi, PCs and printing
  • where to get further help

The dates and times on offer are:

Wednesday 10th January 15:00-15:30

Thursday 11th January 10:30-11:00

Friday 12th January 13:30-14:00

The sessions will take place online via Microsoft Teams.

Registration is required and you can book on a session via the iSkills website.

Welcome to all of our new readers! We’ve put together some tips to help get you started using the Bodleian Libraries.

Take a look at the SSL webpage for all the key information you will need to start using the Bodleian Libraries and our services.

SOLO is the search and discovery tool for the major collections of Oxford University’s libraries (including the SSL). You can find out all about how to use it in our SOLO Subject Guide.

You can also get assistance with using SOLO via the Bodleian Libraries Live Chat service. During staffed hours (see above) just type your query into the Live Chat box to the right of the screen and a staff member will reply.

Visit the Subject and Research Guides website for an array of how to guides on key library services, such as how to use the Bodleian Libraries WiFi, password information and how to print, copy and scan (PCAS). There is also information on online training courses you may find useful to attend (Bodleian iSkills)

New to Oxford? Get to know the Bodleian Libraries and how we can help you.

Libraries will play a big part during your time at Oxford, whether providing access to online articles on your reading list or helping you find that elusive book.

Getting to grips with the services we provide and finding your way around buildings and collections, can seem daunting at first. We run Library Welcome Sessions and Tours, to provide you with all the key information you need to know, so you can confidently get down to your studies.

You may also find it useful to watch a short introductory video to the Bodleian Libraries.

Undergraduates

Details of your Library Welcome Webinar, where friendly staff will run through how the Bodleian Libraries can help you, are in your student timetable. Links and times for your session will be listed there or you can ask your college for further details.

The slides and SOLO handout from the webinar are available on the Bodleian Libraries Getting Started webpage.

You can drop in and attend a 20-minute tour at any of these times; no booking is required:

  • Wednesday 4 October: 11am, 5pm
  • Thursday 5 October: 11am, 5pm
  • Friday 6 October: 11am, 5pm

Postgraduates

Your Library Welcome sessions are in person and you will have been given details of them by your Department. In most cases, your Library tours will be just after or just before your Welcome session.

New to the Social Science Library? Come on a library tour

We are offering 20 minute welcome tours to new undergraduate and taught postgraduate students, in 0th week of Michaelmas term:

  • Wednesday 4 October: 11am, 5pm
  • Thursday 5 October: 11am, 5pm
  • Friday 6 October: 11am, 5pm

No booking is required, so come along to find out how to use our library and get advice from staff.
