WISER coming up: Reference Management, African Studies, Getting information to come to you

wiserIn week 2, Bodleian Libraries are running workshops on Reference Management packages; on how to keep up-to-date with emerging research using RSS feeds, alerting services and other tools; and a workshop on information sources specifically for African Studies.

WISER: Tech Tools – Reference Management (Tue 6 May 9.15 – 12.15) (wk 2)
Keeping track of your references and formatting them correctly for your thesis or publication is a chore. Reference management software makes it easy and is worth investigating. This introductory session gives an overview of how it works and the pros and cons of RefWorks, EndNote, Zotero and Mendeley.
Who is this session for? Postgraduates, researchers,  academics and undergraduates wishing to use reference management software.

WISER: Information Sources for African Studies (Thurs 8 May 10.00 – 11.30) (wk 2)
This session will introduce key information sources for African Studies. You will be shown useful finding tools to locate relevant material via SOLO and how to search them, as well as important portals and gateways to libraries and archives of online primary texts. There will be time for a brief hands-on.
Who is this session for? Researchers, academic staff, graduates and anyone interested in the topic.

WISER: Getting information to come to you (Thu 8 May 2.00 – 3.30) (wk 2)
Keeping up to date with new research is important but time consuming!  This session will show you how to set up automatic alerts so that you are notified about new articles and other publications and when key web sites are updated.    Participants will have the opportunity to set up RSS feed readers and/or email notifications during the session.
