From Monday 2nd October the library will revert to term time hours:
- Monday-Friday, 9am-7pm
- Saturday, 10am-4pm
- Sunday 11am-5pm
We’re very pleased to be able to continue Sunday opening throughout the 2017/18 and 2018/19 academic years, thanks to a generous donation from the Rothermere Foundation.
The mezzanine area of the library will be closed to readers on Tuesday 19th September while scaffolding is set up to fix one of the high-level windows which is jammed open. Access will be maintained to the upper floors where there is plenty of alternative seating available.
New books received in the library during August may now be seen on our website and LibraryThing page.
The library will be closed on Monday 28th August due to the bank holiday. We will reopen as usual at 9am on Tuesday 29th.
Thanks to the Social Science Library, Americanists in Oxford now have access to two new data resources with relevance for the United States:
U.S. Representative General – County and Congressional District Level Vote 2004, 2006 and 2008 datasets
A selection of high-quality, very detailed election data sets, compiled from official sources relating to U.S. Representative General – County and Congressional District Level Votes for the elections of 2004, 2006 and 2008. This contains a breakdown of voting by State, County, Town and Congressional District. Graphs, statistics and candidate names are also included.
Polling the Nations
A compilation of full-text questions and responses from over 14,000 national, state, and local surveys conducted since 1986 by more than 1,400 polling organisations in 100 countries.
Both are now available via SOLO/OxLIP+, with remote access available to University members via single sign-on.
Slightly belatedly this month, June’s new books can now be seen on our website and LibraryThing page.
The mezzanine area will be closed to readers on Thursday 6th July. This is to allow electrical work to be carried out which will require scaffolding to be built to get up to the high ceiling. Access will be maintained to the upper floors, where alternative seating is available. We apologise for any disruption this work may cause.
During the week beginning 26th June, books with shelfmarks beginning F… will be moved from the first floor to the top floor. The movers will endeavour to keep noise to a minimum but there will inevitably be a bit of disruption on the first and second floors of the library while this takes place.
Books with F shelfmarks will be temporarily unavailable for a brief period during the week as each shelf is moved. Following the move, these books will be found on the top floor after the end of the E section.
Further moves will take place throughout the rest of the summer on both the top and first floors to respace other parts of the collection. Apologies for any inconvenience, but any given book should not be inaccessible for long.
From Sunday 18th June the library will switch to summer vacation hours:
- Monday-Friday 9am-5pm
- Closed weekends
Please note, for the last weekend of term, we will be open as usual on Saturday 17th June (10am-4pm) but CLOSED on Sunday 18th June.
A selection of the new books received in the library during May may now be seen on our website and LibraryThing.
