Green shelf slips for Gladstone Link Books

A new system of green shelf slips has been set up in the Gladstone Link area of the Bodleian Library.

If you take a book from the shelves to use, please:

  • fill in the slip legibly
  • put the slip on the shelf in place of the book

If you take a book which has been in use from a book return trolley, please put a new slip with your details on the appropriate shelf.  This slip system has been introduced in the Gladstone Link in response to reader feedback.

History Faculty Library books may be borrowed by current members of Oxford University from the Lower Camera Reserve Desk.

Bodleian Library books, with the exception of the Personal Development Collection, cannot be borrowed from the Gladstone Link and should not be removed from the library.

New online form for lost and missing books

The Bodleian History Faculty Library has a new online form on its website for readers and library staff to report missing and lost books.  Readers can fill in the form themselves, or ask staff to do it on their behalf.  The form can be used for two purposes: 1) when readers have lost a book that they borrowed or 2) they are looking for a book that should be available on the Library’s shelves.

Books lost by borrowers

If you have lost a book that you borrowed from the Bodleian History Faculty Library then you can inform staff using the online form You will be asked to provide the author name, title of the book and shelfmark (if possible) and your name and email address and can give any additional information in the comments box. If you report a lost book to staff in the library we can fill in this form on your behalf.

Once the form has been received, library staff will draft an invoice for the cost of the missing book. You will be contacted by staff within 5 working days (Monday to Friday).

Available books not found in the Library

If you are unable to find a book in the Library that is showing as available on the SOLO library catalogue then you can ask staff to search for it by using the online form You will be asked to provide the author name, title of the book, shelfmark and your name and email address and to tell us the date when this book will no longer be useful to you. You can also give any additional information in the comments box.

Library staff will search for the book over the next week.  If we find the book we will place it on hold for you at the Lower Camera Reserve Desk in the Radcliffe Camera and send you an email to confirm it is available for you to collect.  If we do not find the book after a week we will email you to let you know. We will search again for the book at the end of the term and if it is still not found we will consider purchasing a replacement copy.
