On 9 August 2010 the LawBod has – along with all the Bodleian Libraries at Oxford – moved on to the PCAS system for self-service printing, photocopying and scanning at Library printer/copiers.
How do Readers benefit from this change?
Readers now have access to a range of new services across all Bodleian libraries: printing from laptops, scanning; colour copies; self-service online accounts; and discounted duplex. Now print jobs can be collected from any photocopier in any Bodleian Library e.g. if it would be more convenient for a Reader to send a print job while at a LawBod computer but not to collect it till s/he’s in the Social Science Library later, this will be possible. (Restricted to a maximum delay of 72 hours. After which all uncollected print jobs are automatically deleted).
What changes do Readers have to make?
Crucially, Readers will have to set up – and then add credit to – personal PCAS accounts. This they can do at https://bodleian.pcounterwebpay.com
There is plenty of instruction & information about PCAS available online, in leaflets, posters and handouts in the LawBod (and every Bodleian Library) and you could always ask a member of staff. But please remember we’re on a learning curve too! Please understand also that the first few weeks of any new system is when snags are discovered – and, of course, corrected!
Don’t worry if you have an EMOS card with credit still on it! First, from August 9th, open a PCAS account. Then bring the old EMOS card into any Bodleian Library, hand it in to a member of Library Staff along with your PCAS username and a valid email and any remaining credit on the EMOS card can be transferred to your PCAS account.
The other crucial change readers will have to make is to remember to log off at printer/copiers when they have finished a session of photocopying/scanning or printing out: no more just walking away! But then they should be used to making sure they do that every time they leave a LawBod computer workstation already.
