Away from Oxford for the winter vacation?

Winter at the Lawbod

Away from Oxford for the vacation?  Read below for a guide as to how to access resources from anywhere in the world and how to get the help you need away from Oxford.

Databases

You will still be able to access the databases but you need to use the Oxlip+ gateway.  Remember to log in using the link at the right hand side and then search for the database you wish to use.

EJournals

Oxford has a large number of online journals and law is no exception.  Again  go to Oxlip+ but this time choose the ejournals tab at the top.  This will give you the option of searching by journal title.  You need to search for  the title of the journal rather than the title of the article you want to read.  If the journal is available electronically it will appear as a link which will tell you which databases the journal is held in.  Remember to look at the date range and it is also worth noting that with legal journals the citation boxes may not take you straight to the article – you may need to use the navigation within the particular database to find what you are looking for.

If you do not know where an article has been published or wish to search on a subject then you can use one of the many indexes below which you can get to by searching on Oxlip+.

  1. Legal Journals Index (available on Westlaw UK) which has abstracts for UK published material and links through to full text where available
  2. Social Science Citation Index which covers the broader Social Sciences but includes some legal topics
  3. Index to Legal Periodicals which covers US and UK legal journals
  4. Index to Foreign Legal Periodicals which covers legal journals in the rest of the world (limited coverage).
  5. Google Scholar which is a free Google based product and this covers a wide range of sources around the world.  It is not limited to journal articles.

With these sources it is important to note that if you are not on the Oxford network you may not get a direct link through and so will have to note the citation and use Ejournals.
