Booz & Company – The 2012 Global Innovation 1000 Study

Year after year, our Global Innovation 1000 study has demonstrated that it is not how much companies spend on research and development that determines success — what really matters is how those R&D funds are invested in talent, process, and tools. In addition to our recurring analysis of R&D spending trends, our eighth annual study of the world’s 1000 largest corporate R&D spenders focuses on the “fuzzy front-end” of the innovation process — the tools, mechanisms and networks companies use to generate ideas and effectively convert them into commercialization projects.

MIT Technology Review – 35 Innovators under 35

Some members of our latest list of young innovators from around the world have developed consumer Web services you might have used, such as Spotify or Dropbox. Others are making more fundamental breakthroughs that have yet to be commercialized, such as more efficient engines or improvements in optical communications. And a few are blazing trails in fields that didn’t exist before, like pop-up fabrication of tiny machines, or cameras that can see around corners. But all 35 of them have something significant in common: their work is likely to be influential for a very long time. We hope that these stories about them surprise and inspire you. —The Editors

The Banker – The Banker Investment Banking Awards 2012

Executives are talking hopefully about 2013. But there has been a marked change of tone over the past year, given the sheer depth of the challenges facing the industry. There is a growing sense that headwinds will remain gale-force for the foreseeable future. The eurozone crisis has undermined the business models of many European banks, while a deluge of regulation on both sides of the Atlantic is transforming all aspects of investment banking, from capital usage to trading operations. The top performers have moved fast to identify those markets and segments that still offer growth opportunities. They have also pioneered more efficient balance sheet usage that will enhance their prospects when markets eventually stage a sustained recovery. However, the dislocation of the industry also presents an opportunity for alternative models and independent investment banks, some of which have performed particularly well in our awards this year.

Marketing – Is the reality that the best creative marketing talent is based in London?

The article presents opinions on marketing talent in London, England from marketing directors Christian Woolfenden and Dominic Grounsell and chief executives Steve Booth and Mike Phillipson. Topics include regional differences between the capital city and the rest of Great Britain, global economic influences on marketing in London, and the distribution of creative industries in Great Britain.
