Coming Soon – Booksale

From Monday, the 3rd of March, the Sainsbury Library will be holding a book sale where students can buy second hand and, in some cases, unused books that are not required by the library. In order to purchase a book you will need to come into the library. We will have a display of the books on offer, with laminated photos of the book covers – simply pick up the photo of the book you are interested in, and then bring this to the enquiry desk to make your purchase. Please note this will operate on a first-come first-served basis, and we cannot offer to reserve items by phone or email. Payment at the enquiry desk must be in cash.

Phishing: How to avoid being caught by phishers

‘Phishing’ is a type of fraud whereby criminals try to get you to reveal confidential information such as your passwords, bank or credit card details.

Sometimes suspicious looking emails might arrive in your Oxford email in-box, for example:

  • You may receive a fake email pretending to come from your bank or your email provider, saying there is a problem and asking you to send details about your account in reply (e.g. username and password). Never reply to these emails.
  • An email claims you have won a raffle/Ebay item/lottery/fortune but they need your account details to send the winnings.
  • An email claims that an overseas fortune can be ‘laundered’ through your bank account and you can keep a share for your help.

If you receive a phishing attack that asks for University credentials, then you can report it to phishing@it.ox.ac.uk with full email headers.

E-Commerce – The Internet Grocery Market

One of the key trends driving the success of the e-commerce grocery market is the roll out of household broadband services throughout the UK demographic, with a higher proportion of consumers each year having access and regular usage of Internet technology. Tablet devices and smartphones have widened opportunities for competitors to create online apps so that grocery retail sites can be accessed and e-commerce orders can be placed while people are on the move. Other trends discussed in relation to the scope of the report include changes in consumer tendencies, issues impacting on the sourcing of food produce and the costs of food products in the UK market, as well as new product development (NPD) and innovation.
