One of the Social Science Library’s SafePod Coordinators, Craig Finlay (Reader Services Librarian), has recently achieved the Gold Level SafePod Coordinator Award. This award signifies that Craig has completed 100+ SafePod bookings over 2 years of service; he is the first Coordinator across the UK SafePod Network to reach this level. Well done, Craig!
The SafePod Network (SPN) offers researchers with a standardised and secure way to access datasets through the use of their SafePods. The SPN have coordinated the installation of SafePods in various institutions across the UK, including the Bodleian Social Science Library. Researchers can book to use the SSL SafePod directly from the SafePod Network website, which will allow them to consult datasets from participating data centres such as the Office for National Statistics.
Staff based in the institutions where a SafePod is located, such as Craig at the SSL, receive training from the SPN to become designated SafePod Coordinators. They can then offer support to researchers who visit the SafePod, including carrying out the secure check-in and check-out procedures and providing SafePod inductions.
