Orde, Thomas. Print after drawing of Voltaire playing Lusignan in Zaïre. c 1770s. Etching. Taylor Institution Library Collection, University of Oxford.

Thomas Ordre, afterwards 1st Lord Bolton (1746-1806) visited Voltaire in 1772 at a time when the famous actor H.L. L ekain was also there. Voltaire seems to have initiated an impromptu performance of his play Zaïre in which he took the part of Lusignon. The theatre at Chatelaine, just outside the boundaries of Geneva, was set up in 1771. Is a mirror image of Orde’s original drawing.
