Mezzanine closed, lighting replacement work, 1st-12th September

Library mezzanineThe lighting above the mezzanine area of the library will be replaced starting on 1st September. The mezzanine will be closed to readers throughout the duration of the work, which is expected to take two weeks. Access will be maintained to the upper floors, where there is plenty of alternative seating available. We hope that the work will not be too disruptive, but there is likely to be some noise at least while scaffolding is erected and then removed. Apologies therefore for any disturbance!

We’re recruiting! Saturday lunch cover invigilators

Do you regularly work in the VHL on Saturdays? Would you be interested in becoming a lunch cover invigilator and so help us extend hours on a permanent basis?

The trial of extended Saturday hours last term proved very popular, and we would like to be able to continue to offer the longer hours for the coming year and in the future. However in order to do so, we need to recruit a team of invigilators who can provide cover for our Saturday library assistant’s lunch break each week.

As a lunch cover invigilator you would commit to sitting at the library enquiry desk for 30 minutes on 2-3 Saturdays per term, in order to allow our Saturday library assistant to take her lunch break. The job would involve answering any enquiries, and issuing and receiving books from readers. These are ideal posts for people who will already be in the library studying. Full details may be found on the University’s recruitment website at: https://www.recruit.ox.ac.uk/pls/hrisliverecruit/erq_jobspec_version_4.jobspec?p_id=114581 and applications may be made online via that link until Wednesday 27th August.
